Welcome to my Digital Greenhouse

This is an ever evolving home page and project status/planning page. It will be replaced by a proper home page once it makes sense.

What is this?

This is a Digital Garden in the making. Since I'm only in the stage of building it, it doesn't look like a garden yet. It's a greenhouse, where I experiment and grow ideas to see if they're viable. Some day, I'll move it out under the blue sky and I'll probably just call it a digital garden.

I'm doing this as my One Big Win, a structured program to help people achieve a personal goal in 8 weeks. The current cohort, where a group of people all commit to personal quests and do them alongside each other, runds from 14 April to 9 June 2025.

The basic element in One Big Win is one Block, a unit of 25 minutes of undistracted work. I commited to 40 Blocks in these 8 weeks to work on this Digital Greenhouse.

Here is my Block Log, where I track what I do.

What is a Digital Garden?

A Digital Garden is something like a personal wiki. It is a public place where a person curates, collects and connects ideas.

It is similar but different from a blog. While a blog is there to publish polished pieces of writing, usually displayed in reverse chronological, a garden consists of notes with no clear hierarchy or final publish date. The notes are meant to be evolved constantly, like plants in a garden have to be watered.

Maggie Appleton has written a A Brief History & Ethos of the Digital Garden, a fantastic introduction to the topic.

But why?

My motivation is to create something that will help me think and understand. I want to create notes that represent tangible artifacts of ideas and concepts that I have in my head. By writing them down and putting them in relation to each other I hope to gain deeper understanding. Those notes will be my stepping stones, so to say, for deeper knowledge.

About me

I'm Roman, an almost-psychologist (handing in my Master's thesis at the end of May) from Switzerland. I'm interested in humans & technology, real & artificial intelligence, learning & intentional living.

I sometimes also publish writings on my blog, and you can get in touch with me via e-mail.
