Free Will

I'm unsure if we have a free will. Neurological research like the Libet Experiment suggests otherwise: Free will might just be an illusion. Still, I don't think this is settled.

But even when we take this out of the equation: We have no choice over our preferences, and about that I'm sure. Like Schopenhauer said, "a man can do what he wants, but not want what he wants".

Sure, we can chose not to follow our preferences, but then we're in for a bad time. If we strive for happiness, the only way to get there is to live to our preferences, intrinsic values and needs, which we have no choice over. So how free is our will then?
